The Silo Cooking School is located in a renovated, circa-1800’s horse barn. The first recreational cooking school in Connecticut, its charm and ambience have captivated visitors of all ages. Over the years, the School has hosted some of the best chefs in the business: Martha Stewart, Jacques Pepin, Rachel Ray and still others who’ve yet to have their own show! In 2014, The Silo Cooking School was named “Best in CT” by Connecticut Magazine.
The organization looks forward to expanding the school in the coming years, to allow more classroom and teaching space. It is a goal of the School to be able to offer classes almost every day of the year!
To appeal to all ages, talent levels and tastebuds (both the adventurous and the cautious), The Silo Cooking School will be exploring many trends and themes this year! Keep coming back to check our calendar to find out what’s coming next!
Classes are 3 hours in length.
We offer two different formats listed below. You will be given a tasting size portion of all the dishes prepared during the class. We will also provide you with recipes for all the menu items.
Full Participation (aka “hands on”) –
These are full participation classes where students take part in practicing techniques and preparing the menu items. Depending on the complexity of the menu items, we may limit the class size to ensure all have the opportunity to get in the action.
Designed as an observation class, participants watch while chefs explain and show recipe preparation and cooking techniques.
We ask that you wear comfortable, casual clothing and flat shoes. Open-toed shoes and sandals are not recommended. Long, dangling or loose jewelry too is not a good idea.
We know plans can change and we try to be as flexible as possible. You may cancel your registration for a class up to seven (7) days in advance to receive a full refund or to transfer to another class of equal value. The Silo Cooking School reserves the right to cancel any class that fails to attract sufficient enrollment or due to chef illness or inclement weather. If this occurs, we will contact you by email and phone and issue a full refund or give you the option to transfer into another class of your choice (subject to availability).
If you miss a class due to other concerns, our standard cancellation policy applies.
Please let us know on the class registration form if you, or anyone in your party has a food allergy. We will manage the menu and the class to ensure your safety.
You bet! However, please keep in mind most of our family and children-oriented classes are intended for children ages 6+.

Kids & Teens Hands-On Cooking Camp
One of The Silo’s goals is to help invigorate and bring communities together to create a more thoughtful and vibrant future. Where better than the KITCHEN to focus on these issues in depth? Throughout history, the kitchen has been considered the “heart of the home,” and is often where family, friends and neighbors gather.
